Comparison of two processing techniques for high-density polyethylene bottles

May 24 , 2021

High-density polyethylene bottles are commonly used bottles for pharmaceutical packaging, and are mainly used for solid or liquid pharmaceutical packaging. Medicine bottles are generally made through special processing techniques. Common processing techniques include injection blowing and extrusion blowing. So what is the difference between these two processing techniques?

The injection blowing bottle is to inject the tube blank and then blow into the bottle. Extrusion blowing is to first heat the plastic with an injection molding machine, extrude it from a mold, and then put the extruded flat material into the mold directly with high pressure Air blow molding. The difference between injection blowing and extrusion blowing of high-density polyethylene bottles is that in the injection-blowing process, the mold used to form the plastic bottle body includes a male mold and a female mold. The plastic melt is injected into the mold cavity under high pressure by the injection machine and opened. When in the cavity, the male mold must be removed from the female mold to eject the bottle body. In extrusion blow molding, an extruder head is used to form the parison. The blow mold is mainly composed of two halves of a female mold. Generally, a male mold is not needed, and the parison is blown with injected compressed air.

In the applicable bottle shape, the bottom of the bottle formed by the extrusion-blowing process has a seam line, which can produce a variety of complex, irregular and integral shaped bottles, which are mainly used for the production of large-capacity plastic bottles. The plastic bottle produced by the injection-blow process has a smooth bottom, precise position of the bottle mouth, high strength, and a more high-end appearance. It is mainly suitable for mass production of small plastic parts.

In addition, the production process of plastic bottles also includes injection stretch blowing, injection molding, etc. The above is a comparison of the two commonly used production processes for high-density polyethylene bottles. According to the different application requirements of customers, the appropriate processing technology can better meet the product storage.
